Cleaning House

Fri Jul 3, 2009, 4:08 PM
I am in the midst of a major episode of spring cleaning - in the summer, and about ten years too late. I am sorting through shelves and closets finding books, trinkets, photo albums, mementos, and of course, those embarassing old journals and sketchbooks. Going through them, I see myself in a younger, only slightly more naive, light. I have posted a few of the better selections from my sketchbooks. Most of them have to do with the music that was surrounding my life at the time (and still is - Robbie Robertson and Daniel Lanois have been perennial favourites of mine).

This cleanse and purge is bittersweet. I find myself laughing and crying. This is a necessary step as I cannot move forward while immersed in the clutter of the past.

  • Listening to: Electronic sounds from my computer
  • Reading: Facebook
  • Watching: The world
  • Playing: A foolish game
  • Eating: My words.
  • Drinking: A virgin pina colada.

deviantID

I am a freelance writer, photographer, editor, artist, musician, and activist in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. My photography focuses on life and social justice. My visual art is abstract and uses a variety of medias, in particular tempera paints and food colouring (but not necessarily at the same time). I can often be found in the inner city, in coffee shops and cafes, and sometimes going far too deep into my head. I play the guitar and write songs, and stand for peace, human rights, and social justice.
